On Thursday 9th November, 2017, Cameroon Focal Point for the Advocacy for Change for Adolescents Project (ACAP), Desmond Nji Atanga met the Secretary General of the North West Region, Mr. Lanyuy Harry Ngwayi. He presented the reports of his attendance at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2017 during which he meaningfully engaged with a government official of the Cameroon Ministry of Public Health to discuss about and think through solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of adolescents.
Desmond also enlightened the Secretary General about his continuation grant from Women Deliver to Drive Comprehensive Sexuality Education to Cameroon Secondary Schools (DCSE). He informed the Secretary General that Cameroon is one of five priority countries to first roll-out the Advocacy for Change for Adolescents toolkit developed by the Adolescent and Youth Constituency (AYC) of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) in collaboration with Women Deliver. He also briefed the Secretary General about the first UNLEASH Innovation Lab for Sustainable Development Goals that took place in Denmark in August 2017. During the Lab, he joined 2 other youths from Nigeria and India to innovate BlockFakeRx, a novel idea to combat counterfeit medication including reproductive health supplies in Africa.
The Secretary General, while congratulating the young team for patriotically representing Cameroon to promote its development promised the support of the government to enable the successful implementation of the projects. He immediately requested to know the various government departments the team would like to work with. He then facilitated meaningful engagement with the identified personnel.
